A Sapper, a British Army Officer who won the Victoria Cross at Rorke's Drift in January 1879 where he commanded a British garrison of 139 soldiers that repeatedly repulsed an assault by over 3000 Zulu warriors.

You may of seen the film 'Zulu' in which the battle was recreated and Lieutenant Chard was played by Stanley Baker. It also starred Michael Caine as Gonville Bromhead, also a Lieutenant, of the 24th Regiment of Foot.

"Who said you could use my men"
"I'll tell my man to clean your kit"
